Lucas: Liverpool in the Champions League Should Be

Lucas Leiva, Brazilian international midfielder is looking at a bright future at Anfield, after he saw the ambition of the club owners to bring in big players this summer.

Lucas, middle linebacker this Liverpool, said if Liverpool are able to qualify and compete in the Champions League next season, although the Merseyside club have failed to compete in the competition for two consecutive years.

Brazilian international has been accustomed to receive harsh criticism from fans of the Reds, because the criticism has been on the rise and affect ever since Liverpool revitalized by Kenny Dalglish.

But the 2-0 defeat of Tottenham at Anfield at the weekend, managed to bury the last hope for Liverpool's League qualified for Europe because it is ranked fifth league standings.

Even so, the 24-year-old midfielder is hoping with the arrival of Dalglish and still continue his duties as manager of the Reds could bring back Liverpool in Champions League triumph in the arena.

"We wanted to come back again competing in the Champions League arena, because that's where Liverpool should be. We will make every effort to achieve it again," Lucas said as quoted by Sky Sports News.

"We can see the owners and everyone involved in the club tried to strengthen the squad. They worked hard to build a good team, so we hope next season will be a very good season for Liverpool," he added.

Lucas also expressed about the long-term contract at Anfield, where he had signed a contract extension in March.

"My plan, of course played for Liverpool, winning the champion trophy and become key players in the team. I hope to be able to achieve my individual goals, then do the best with the team," he concluded.
