LONDON - Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger feels Mikel Arteta is good enough to defend the Spanish national team. Wenger thinks a bit unfortunate when foster children are not given the opportunity to appear for La Furia Roja.
Arteta had just scored one goal for the Gunners against West Brom in Arsenal's 3-0 victory over Roy Hodgson's team. Appearance of the Everton players who purchased it was also impressive in recent Arsenal games so far.
"In different ways he end up like (Ryan) Giggs," Wenger said as reported by Tribalfootball, Monday (11/07/2011).
"He has the bad luck not to play with Wales. He never went to a big tournament. Arteta was born in Spain where they have plenty of midfielders who truly remarkable," he explained.
Wenger also said Arteta not get a chance to defend a big club that made the Spanish national team coach thought to call him. New practical Arsenal just a big club who have defended Arteta is a product of the Barcelona academy.
"What may not help him is that he was very young and he did not move to a big club that might help such as they should," said the Frenchman was.
"By the time he moved to PSG, it is too young and when they are not going well. After he moved to Rangers to try to convince the Spanish coach that he deserves a spot on the team, he also did not get it and then to Everton, no different," he explained.
"It shows what I always say, 90 percent of the player's career was with the club. The club is making a career in international players. If he was English he would have an international career here (UK)," said Wenger.
Arteta never once defended the senior Spanish national team, although when I was younger, he could defend national team U-17 and U-21 Spain. Arteta is now 29 years old, and the possibility of defending La Furia Roja is quite difficult, it was rumored to menaturalisasi Arteta British interest, but the news has not been continued until today.
